Feedback from: Apple: EU digital ID scheme for online transactions across Europe
6/09/2021 – 14:18
…”We strongly believe that acceptance by private relying parties should be optional, and that the European Institutions should encourage Member States to offer digital solutions that are attractive and compelling enough for users to adopt them. We are also concerned that the Commission will have the discretion to extend the list of private online service providers that could be mandated to accept the use of EU Digital Identity Wallets in the future, thereby creating significant uncertainty across the entire industry.
We would therefore welcome changes to the EU Digital Identity Proposal to state that private relying parties (including online platforms, for the reasons set out in Section 4 above) are not under an obligation to accept EU Digital Identity Wallets, and that such acceptance is instead made optional.
We would welcome an opportunity to participate in the development of the Toolbox and contribute our expertise and learnings from developing a technical architecture for digital identities and other credentials. As stated above, we strongly believe that the EU Digital Identity Framework should be based on the ISO Standards.”
