Annalisa Tosdevin: European Commission finds preliminary concerns in respect of Internet of Things
12/06/2021 – 10:39
“The European Commission has found preliminary competition concerns in its sector inquiry into the rapidly-expanding Internet of Things. The initial findings, which focus on voice assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant, identify four main areas of concern:
The difficulties for consumers in using multiple voice assistants.
The scope for voice assistants and smart device operating systems to influence consumers (for example, through self-promotion or promotion of certain third parties).
The considerable amounts of data collected by voice assistants and smart device operating systems.
The limited interoperability between different providers.
The Commission is now consulting on these initial findings until 1 September, with publication of its final conclusions expected in the first half of next year.”
